The Italian opera singer, Andrea Bocelli, will perform the opening ceremony of the European Nations Cup, which begins Friday evening, at the Olympic Stadium in Rome, in the match Italy against Turkey.
Who is Bocelli?
Born on September 22, 1958 in Italy, he learned to play the piano, flute, and saxophone as a young child.
Bocelli was awarded the Order of Merit of the Italian Republic, the Order of Merit of Duarte, Sanchez, and Mila, and is considered one of the most famous singers in the world today, and some even describe him as the owner of the most beautiful voice in the world.
A legacy with football and a rich history with sporting events
Bocelli has a football-related legacy, as he lost his sight at the age of twelve, in an accident while playing football.
The Italian singer has previously performed many important sporting events, most notably the opening ceremony of the Winter Olympics in Turin in 2006, and the 2016 European Champions League final.
Bocelli will perform the famous “Gacomo Puccini” song at the opening ceremony of “Euro 2020”, which will also include an air show and fireworks over the “Olympico” stadium.
The “Euro 2020” competitions will start today, Friday, and will last for a whole month in 11 European cities, with the participation of 24 teams.
