The outages began around 5:30 a.m. ET, with a large number of sites affected, and the CDN was the source of the problems that lasted for more than an hour, according to the verege.
Major news sites such as CNN, The New York Times, The Guardian and the Financial Times were also affected.
The problems also affected British government websites, so British citizens were unable to renew passports, apply for tax exemptions or obtain driver’s licenses during the outage.
Fastly hasn’t fully commented on issues beyond the outage message on the company’s status page, “The issue has been identified and a fix is being implemented,” Fastly said at 6:44 AM ET.
