Algerian Riyad Mahrez led Manchester City to the Champions League final at the expense of Paris Saint-Germain, and scored the two goals of the second leg at the Etihad Stadium.
This is the first time that the English team has reached the Champions League final in its history.
Paris Saint-Germain failed to compensate for his loss in the first-leg match with two goals to one at his home in Paris, to bid farewell to the championship in the semi-finals.
Mahrez scored the two goals of the match, the first in the 11th minute, and the second goal in the 63rd minute, after a typical pass from Kevin de Bruyne.
Paris Saint-Germain also suffered a heavy blow before kick-off when coach Mauricio Pochettino was forced to dispense with the services of striker Kylian Mbappe for injury.
The St Germain players tried to press hard to win and compensate for the first-leg defeat, but they failed to score any goal due to the intense pressure on Brazilian Neymar and the defensive intensity that Pep Guardiola put in front of his own goal.
The same scenario was repeated for the first leg, when Idrissa Gaye was sent off, but this time the expulsion went to the Argentine Angel Di Maria, who came out in the 69th minute after a violent intervention against Fernandinho.
As happened in the last match, the Saint Germain players lost discipline and focus after being sent off, and randomness prevailed over performance, so it was the second loss.
City takes control
Guardiola imposed his rhythm on the match from its start. Tactical control was evident in achieving the goal of reaching the Champions League Final. He achieved the goal and succeeded with minimal efforts in curtailing the Paris Saint-Germain players and kidnapping Riyad Mahrez two goals.
Manchester City is waiting for the result of the meeting between Chelsea and Real Madrid to find out which team will face it in the final match, which will be held in Istanbul, Turkey, on May 29.
City is close to achieving an exceptional season, in addition to climbing to the Champions League final, and its great chances of winning the title in Turkey, as it is close to winning the English Premier League title.
Guardiola and his team could be crowned the Premier League title next Saturday in the Chelsea meeting, to continue sweeping local titles in England.
City showed great maturity and development this season, and was able to overcome difficult moments in the Champions League, the most difficult match of which was against Borussia Dortmund in Dortmund in the quarter-finals.
He was also able to absorb the excitement of Paris Saint-Germain by beating defending champions Bayern Munich.
And now the road is paved for Manchester City to prove that it is a great power in Europe after it was a local team that did not win any continental championships.
Mahrez the innovator
Guardiola has proven that he has champions everywhere, and is not affected by the absence of the main players, after the squad was empty of influential players such as Rodri, Emeric Laporte, Joao Cancelo and Raheem Sterling, who did not stop cheering throughout the match.
Mahrez was the best player in the match with distinction. Despite the difficulties he faced in the beginning with the team, he has now adapted completely and is a key element in Guardiola’s lineup, and he is innovative and has scored important goals.
Mahrez scored four goals in eight Champions League matches this season, including three in the home and away semi-finals, one in Paris and two goals at the Etihad Stadium.
