In response to COVID-19: Suspension of Non-Urgent Surgical Intervention

The Minister of Health, Fawzi Al-Mahdi, decided to stop all surgical specialties for non-urgent cases and cancerous diseases for a period of one month, starting on May 4, 2021.

Al-Mahdi took the decision due to the development of the epidemiological situation in our country against the background of the emergence of the new strain of the Covid 19 virus and the resulting steady increase in the number of infected people who were sheltered in health structures, and with the aim of strengthening the capacity of hospitals to accommodate resuscitation beds to surround patients whose condition requires hospitalization.

On May 4, the Minister of Health sent a memorandum of this decision to the general directors of public health institutions, directors of health structures, regional directors of health, heads of medical committees and heads of committees to combat the Corona pandemic.
