Oliver Bierhoff, director of the German Football Association, said today, Tuesday, that the federation will not submit a request to change the defender’s association after examining the FIFA statutes.
Bierhoff explained that the chances of success of the request will be very small due to the laws that were changed a few months ago.
Bierhoff said that Sosa is an interesting player with great potential and that he could have been imagined playing for the German national team after his naturalization procedures were completed.
The FIFA statutes and regulations stipulate, among other things, that a change of association may be granted to a player if he is under 21 on his last assignment with his current association in an official football-related competition.
Sosa was already 22 years old when he last played for the Croatia U-21 team in the European qualifiers against Scotland in November. The player agreed to obtain German citizenship and also wanted to play for the German national team.
