Dubai, United Arab Emirates (CNN) – An initiative aimed at beautifying the Jeddah governorate in Saudi Arabia has received negative reactions from social media users.

The advisor to the Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques and the Governor of Makkah Al-Mukarramah Region, Prince Khaled Al-Faisal, ordered the removal of the damaged car models decorated with colors, which were placed by the Jeddah Municipality as an aesthetic view in the Tahlia Walkway under the title of “Drawing a Nation” initiative, according to the official website of the Saudi Press Agency, “SPA” Online Monday.

The decision came as a result of these models distorting the visual scene of Jeddah, according to the website.

On Twitter, the official account of the Emirate of Makkah Al-Mukarramah stated that the pioneers of social networking sites interacted with the work negatively, and they described the initiative as a “distortion of the visual scene.”

In a statement published on its official website on Monday, the Municipality of Jeddah clarified the goal behind the “drawing a homeland” initiative.

The statement said: “The Jeddah Governorate Municipality would like to clarify that the Yalla Jeddah platform at the Community Service Agency works to involve residents, citizens and residents, each according to his specialization or hobby in addressing municipal challenges, and to contribute to improving services and facilities in Jeddah.”

Among the initiatives that have been adopted is the “Draw a Nation” initiative, which was implemented in cooperation with the plastic artist, Shalimar Al Sharbatli.

The aim was to shed light on the importance of recycling and converting damaged cars into aesthetic models, in addition to establishing 3 fixed platforms to display the models of artists and those wishing to participate periodically, after the end of the exhibition period of the cars initiative.

The Municipality of Jeddah thanked Al-Sharbatly for donating to implement the initiative, adding that it thanks the residents for their interaction with the initiative, and confirms its response to their opinions and suggestions with the aim of improving the visual scene in Jeddah.
