Sweden coach Jan Anderson said yesterday, Saturday, that Milan star Zlatan Ibrahimovic will not be able to participate with the Scandinavian team in the postponed European Cup until next summer.
“I spoke today (yesterday, Saturday) with Ibrahimovic, and he unfortunately told me that his injury would prevent him from participating in the euro this summer,” Anderson said in statements carried by Football Italia.
“Of course it is sad, especially for Zlatan, and for us too,” he added.
He continued, “I hope Ibrahimovic will return to the stadium again as soon as possible.”
Ibrahimovic (39 years) suffered a knee injury a week ago, and tests of Milan club medical experts showed, yesterday, Saturday, his need for “a six-week preventive treatment.”
“Ibra” had just renewed his contract with Milan for an additional season, until June 2022, and returned to the ranks of his country, Sweden, participating in the European Cup finals next month, five years after his retirement from international football.
Sweden opens its tournament in the continental championship, on June 14, against Spain, before playing against Slovakia and Poland in the group stage.
