The book, titled The Bench, will be published on June 8, and is said to be inspired by the relationship between her husband Prince Harry and their son Archie.
“The book began as a poem that I wrote for my husband on Father’s Day, a month after Archie’s birth,” the Duchess said in a statement.
“That poem became this book,” she added.
“I hope that the book resonates in every family, regardless of its composition, as much as it resonates with my family,” the Duchess added.
The illustrations and characters of the story will be illustrated by award-winning illustrator Christian Robinson.
There will also be an audio version of the book in the Duchess’s voice.
Penguin Random House said the book aims to evoke “a deep sense of warmth, connection and compassion”.
The house added that it “gives readers a window into shared and enduring moments between a diverse group of parents and children – moments of peace and reflection, trust and faith, discovery and learning, and lasting comfort.”
“The Bench” is the latest of several projects the Duke and Duchess of Sussex have initiated since they abdicated their royal duties in 2020 and moved to the United States to live independently.
The couple has since launched their own charitable foundation, Archewell, and the Duchess has also contributed a voiceover to a Disney movie about nature, Elephant.
Their charity also inspired them to start a podcast of the same name with the goal of promoting well-being and charity.
The couple also secured commercial contracts believed to be worth millions, including a deal with Netflix to produce TV projects and a deal with the podcast company Spotify.
Their first project with Netflix will focus on the Invictis Games, an international sporting event for wounded and sick military and veterans, who were defended and championed by the prince.
Harry also recently announced he is joining a mental health and life coaching startup as a “chief impact officer”.
The Duchess’s new book is not her first writing project.
She used to write a lifestyle blog called The Tig – but she closed it after starting her relationship with Prince Harry.
Their son Archie turns two years old on Thursday, and Harry and his pregnant wife are expecting their second child, a girl, later this year.
