Russian Daniel Medvedev bid farewell to the Spanish tennis championship in Madrid after losing in the third round today, Thursday, to Chilean Christian Karen, two sets to one.
Medvedev lost the first set 6-4, before equalizing the score by winning the second set 7-6, and the two players ruled for a third decider that the Chilean easily ended in his favor with a score of 6-1 to win the match that lasted two hours and 30 minutes.
In the next round of the tournament, which has a prize pool of more than 2.6 million euros, Karen will face the winner of the Italian match between Matteo Brettini and Argentine Federico Delbonis.
Russian Andrei Rublyov also bid farewell to the championship by losing to American John Isner in two sets to one, by 7-6, 3-6, 7-6, within two hours and 5 minutes.
In the quarter-finals, Isner will face Austrian Dominic Thiem, the winner of his turn over Australian Alex de Minor, in two clean sets, 7-6, 6-4.
