Fiorentina announces the appointment of Gennaro Gattuso as coach of the team, and he will join him on July 1.
Italian Fiorentina announced today, Tuesday, that it has signed a contract with former Napoli coach Gennaro Gattuso. Fiorentina will be driving from next July 1,
Club president Rocco Comiso commented: “I am very happy because I can announce to all Viola fans that Gennaro Gattuso will be the next Fiorentina coach.”
He added: “I am convinced that Gattuso, the young coach, who has a great deal of experience, will help us in our growth, and his professional and human history represents for the club an important guarantee of persistence, competence and desire to win.”
Gattuso was sacked as coach of Napoli after he failed to qualify for the Champions League, as the southern team drew against Verona (1-1) in the last round of the Italian League.
“Napoli’s training was very impressive, a year and a half precious, strong and experience that I will carry in my heart,” Gattuso said in a farewell message. “I thank the players, the club’s technical staff, all the workers and President De Laurenti who gave me this opportunity.”
He continued: “I knew a wonderful city, where I lived very well, with my family and exceptional fans, although the pandemic prevented me from enjoying the unique atmosphere at the Diego Maradona stadium.
Gattuso supervised the coaching of a group of teams, including Milan, and then left for Naples and spent two seasons with him.
He began his career as a coach in the year 2013 in Switzerland in Sion, after which he led Palermo and Pisa in Italy, and in November 2017, he joined Milan, where he reached sixth place and then fifth in the Italian league.
He won one title in his coaching career, winning with Napoli the Coppa Italia in the 2019-2020 season.
In another context, Fiorentina finished the season in 13th place in the “Serie A” standings.
