Inflation in Spain soared in April to the highest rate since 2018

The Office of National Statistics in Spain announced, today, Friday, that consumer prices in the country rose to their highest levels in more than two years last April, which comes in line with preliminary estimates.The consumer price index increased in April by 2.2% compared to the same month last year, following an increase of 1.3% in March, and this increase came in line with preliminary estimates published on April 29, and was the highest since October 2018, when the inflation rate reached 2.3%.

Core consumer prices remained stable year-on-year, after a 0.3% increase in the months of March and February, the data showed.

Housing prices witnessed the highest increase in April, rising by 10% compared to the same month of last year, followed by transportation costs, which rose at an annual rate of 7.4%, while telecommunications prices decreased by 4.6%.

On a monthly basis, the CPI rose by 1.2% in April, compared to an increase of 1% in March, and the increase came in line with preliminary estimates.
