7-time British world champion Lewis Hamilton was crowned champion for the fifth time in a row at the Barcelona circuit in the Spanish Grand Prix, the fourth round of the “Formula 1” world championship, on Sunday.

Hamilton, a Mercedes driver, won his 98th victory in his career, the third this season, and the sixth in the Catalan circuit, including five consecutive ones, equal to German record holder Michael Schumacher.

Hamilton finished 66 laps with a time of one hour, 33 minutes and 7,680 seconds, ahead of Red Bull driver Max Verstappen by 15,841 seconds. Hamilton’s Mercedes colleague, Valtteri Bottas, was third.

Hamilton strengthened his lead in the drivers’ standings with 94 points and is 14 points ahead of Verstappen, who scored second-place points, one point for the fastest lap after he entered the podiums to be equipped with smooth tires after losing his lead.

And Hamilton launched from first place for the 100th time in his career in an unprecedented achievement in the history of “Formula 1”, according to what was reported by “Agence France-Presse”.

The Spanish race was held in front of about a thousand people as part of a move to lift the state of emergency imposed in the country since last October.
