Total cases of Covid-19 in India rose by more than 400,000 for the fourth consecutive day on Sunday even as many states imposed strict lockdowns to curb the spread of the virus.
The Indian Ministry of Health reported 4,092 deaths in the past 24 hours, bringing the total number of epidemic victims in India to 242,362.
Also, HIV infections increased by 403,738 cases, bringing the total since the start of the pandemic to 22.3 million.
This comes, after the World Health Organization announced that the Indian mutated version of Covid-19 is one of the factors that led to the spread of the virus at a very rapid rate in India because it is more contagious and deadly and is more resistant to vaccines compared to the original version of the virus.
The chief scientist of the organization, Sumiya Swaminathan, said that the “mutated version” B1 617 “that was discovered in India for the first time in October is definitely one of the main factors in accelerating the spread of the epidemic and out of control in the second largest country in the world in terms of population.”
