Despite this, many Americans do not want to receive the “Covid-19” vaccine, amidst widespread myths and misunderstandings.
The director of the Institute for Health Metrics and Evaluation at the University of Washington, Dr. Christopher Murray, said: “Facebook runs a survey every day, and it shows that confidence in the vaccine in the United States is slowly and steadily declining since February.”
He pointed out that 75% of adults used to say that they wanted to get the vaccine, and now the percentage has decreased to about 67%, “according to the polls.
This is a big problem for several reasons:
First, health experts say we need to vaccinate at least 70 to 85 percent of the US population to achieve herd immunity.
Second, the longer people remain unvaccinated, the greater the chances of the virus mutating. And if the mutations are large, it could lead to more troublesome strains that might evade the effectiveness of vaccines.
Third, long-term “Covid-19” is a fact, and even young athletes have suffered from symptoms such as brain fog, chest pain, and shortness of breath months after their infection.
“Even for young people who consider the risk of severe acute Covid virus low, the long-term consequences can be very serious,” said Director of the National Institutes of Health, Dr. Francis Collins.
Collins added, “Therefore, long-term Covid-19 is an additional reason to encourage everyone aged 16 and over to get vaccinated as soon as possible.”
But rampant myths and unnecessary fears stand in the way.
Here are some of the most common arguments for not receiving a vaccination and why doctors want to fix things:
“We don’t know what the long-term side effects are”
The Dean of the School of Public Health at Brown University, Dr. Ashish Jha, said that any negative side effects from vaccinations “always appear within the first two weeks, and certainly within the first two months.”
It is for this reason that Jha and many other health experts have asked the US Food and Drug Administration to wait at least two months after vaccinating participants in Covid-19 vaccine trials before considering granting emergency clearance for any vaccine.
“If there are problems … they will appear within two months of people receiving the vaccine,” Jha added.
Dr. Paul Offitt, director of the Vaccine Education Center at Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia, and a member of the FDA’s Vaccines and Related Biological Products Advisory Committee, said that the most serious vaccine side effects in history were all discovered within the first six weeks.
Offit, co-creator of the rotavirus vaccine who has studied vaccines for more than four decades, explained that “the smallpox vaccine can cause inflammation in the heart muscle, and the oral polio vaccine was a rare cause of polio and occurred in about one dose out of 2.4 million doses. Yellow fever is a rare cause of yellow fever, all of which happened within six weeks of receiving the dose. ”
Offit indicated that there may be very rare side effects that were not found immediately during clinical trials, and this is due to the extreme scarcity of these side effects, and “not because it is a long-term problem.”
Pfizer, its partner, Bio-Tech, and Johnson & Johnson each included about 44,000 participants in each trial, and half of the volunteers were vaccinated with the vaccine, while the other half received a placebo.
Moderna’s trial included about 30,000 participants, half of whom received the vaccine, while the other half received a placebo.
“The vaccine may harm fertility.”
Offit stressed that this is complete nonsense, as there is no evidence that people have lost any fertility due to “Covid-19” vaccines.
Offit said the rumors appeared to start with a myth that the spinal protein that covers the surface of the virus, which is mimicked when you get a vaccine, mimics the protein on the surface of placenta cells.
“So the misconception is that when you do an immune response to the SARS-Cove-2 virus protein, you are also responding unintentionally to a placental protein, which makes you less likely to be fertile,” Offit said.
Offit added that this belief is nothing but nonsense, and this is not true.
The US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention also confirmed that there is no link between vaccinations and fertility.
The US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention says: “If you are trying to conceive now or want to conceive in the future, you can receive a vaccine against the Covid-19 virus when it is available for you.”
She added, “There is no evidence at present that any vaccines, including those for Covid-19, cause fertility problems.”
The benefits of vaccination if you are pregnant or trying to conceive far outweigh the risks, because pregnancy puts a person at greater risk of developing severe “Covid-19” disease.
Some research indicates that the “Covid-19” vaccines provide a certain level of protection for newborns.
“It is not your business if I don’t get vaccinated.”
As for refusing to receive a “Covid-19” vaccine, it actually affects many people, that is, you, your loved ones, and even the country as a whole.
Offit said: “When people say why you care? You got vaccinated, you are safe and I will choose not to be vaccinated. This makes three false assumptions.”
Offit continued: “First of all, vaccines are not 100% effective, so even if your friends and family got vaccinated, but you did not get it, you can still carry the virus and transmit the infection to your loved ones.”
And as Americans return to crowded bars, concerts, sporting events, and movie theaters, the need for mass vaccination becomes even more important.
It is a mistake to think that everyone who wants a vaccine can only get it, and Ofit pointed to “some people who receive chemotherapy for cancer who cannot get a vaccine and depend on herd immunity to protect them.”
So many of the most vulnerable Americans rely on healthy Americans to get vaccinated.
Also, by not being vaccinated, or being part of a reasonably sized group of people who choose not to get the vaccine, you are allowing the virus to continue replicating, and when it is allowed to continue multiplying, it will create mutations, which can then cause completely resistant variants. For immunity caused by natural infection or vaccine. ”
In other words, failure to obtain a vaccine may make vaccines less effective, which may spoil vaccinations for everyone, and set the country back in the midst of the epidemic.
“I am young and full of health, so I do not need to be vaccinated.”
It is important that healthy young people and adults receive the vaccination, and many of those who refused to receive the vaccine have already suffered the consequences, that is, a highly contagious strain that severely affects young people.
The mutated virus “B.1.1.7” is now the most common strain of the Coronavirus in the United States, and unlike the original strain, this strain severely affects young people.
Young people can develop long-term complications of “Covid-19”, and many of them have suffered from chronic fatigue, chest pain, shortness of breath and brain fog months after the infection.
A recent study found that 30% of people who contracted “Covid-19” had symptoms for up to nine months after infection.
Young people may be a group that carries the Corona virus easily, and several states recently reported a high incidence of “Covid-19” among young people, and Jha indicated that many cases of disease spread occur among young people who move indifferent to infection.
Young adults may be victims of their strong immune systems, and doctors have noted that some previously healthy young patients suffer from cytokine storms, which mainly occur when a person’s immune system overreacts, which may cause severe inflammation or other serious symptoms.
“These vaccines received an emergency use permit only, and did not obtain full approval from the US Food and Drug Administration.”
Although it is true that the “Pfizer Bio-Tech”, “Moderna” and “Johnson & Johnson” vaccines have an emergency use permit by the US Food and Drug Administration, they have not yet received full approval.
But that’s only because there hasn’t been enough time to show how long the vaccines remain effective, Offit said.
Ofit explained, “Usually, you want to see effectiveness for a year or two, but with the Covid-19 vaccines, this was not possible, as conducting a study for a year, two or three years was not an option, because the virus was killing hundreds of thousands of people.” .
Offit stressed that the emergency use of vaccines does not mean that they are less safe.
As a member of the FDA’s Vaccine Advisory Committee, Offit said that vaccines are reviewed with the same level of scrutiny it would get to obtain full approval.
Offit added that he is confident that the vaccines will obtain full approval from the US Food and Drug Administration, noting that the efficacy data during the third phase trials and now in the real world are “excellent.”
I already had Covid-19, so I do not need to be vaccinated.
Health experts say that even if you are infected with the Coronavirus, you still have to get the vaccine because the immunity you get from the vaccination will likely be longer or stronger than the immunity you get after infection.
Emergency Medicine Doctor Dr. Lena Winn said that when it comes to the two-dose vaccines, that is, those produced by “Pfizer” and “Moderna”, people who have already been infected with the Coronavirus should get the two doses.
Wayne added, “We also do not know how long the protection will last after infection with the Coronavirus, so it is necessary to obtain the (complete) vaccination.”
“I don’t want to get COVID-19 because of the vaccine”
It is literally impossible to catch “Covid-19” from any of the vaccines used in the United States, because they do not contain the real Corona virus.
“I may not be able to afford the vaccine.”
Offit said the vaccination is free of charge and the US government is taking care of it.
