Dutch coach Ronald Koeman, coach of the Barcelona team, was transferred yesterday, Thursday, to hospital, due to suffering from an anxiety attack, which was confirmed by Joan Laporta, president of the Catalan club.
Laporta expressed during the press conference, today, Friday, his regret for what happened with Ronald Koeman, saying: “Koman scared us yesterday because he had to go to the hospital, but he is fine now. I called him.”
Ronald Koeman is under severe pressure at the moment, because he desperately wants to continue coaching the team until the end of his contract next season, at a time when everyone talks about Barcelona’s desire to sign another coach.
Laporta confirmed during the press conference that he is preparing to meet again with Ronald Koeman, to decide his future as coach of the team, noting that he respects and appreciates him as a legend for the club.
Laporta commented on Koeman’s future with Barca, saying: “There are no transitional seasons in Barcelona, and in the end we will appreciate the situation and evaluate decisions for the future, and we have always acted with great respect with Koeman, as he is our legend and a professional coach doing his job, and we arranged for the meeting next week.”
He explained, “We want to remain competitors, so we have to speak clearly, and I think I can talk about everything with him, and he can also tell me everything.”
Ronald Koeman won the King’s Cup in his first season with Barcelona, and Laporta may have hinted during his speech that this is not enough for him to get a new opportunity and continue to coach the team next season, noting that his contract extends until 2022.
