Johnson, 48, one of the most popular and highest-paid actors in the United States, added in an interview broadcast today and reported by Reuters: “I have hope for unifying this country, and I also feel that if this is what people want, I will do it.”
The former professional wrestler has not specified which party he will represent or when he might run in the presidential race. But he said he would do so if he felt he had enough support among US citizens.
His comments came on the heels of an online public opinion poll published by PeopleSay, which measures consumer trends, last week, and found that 46% of Americans would consider voting for Johnson.
Johnson joins a long list of American celebrities who ran for political office, including former President Donald Trump, a former reality TV star.
The former wrestler topped Forbes magazine’s list of the world’s highest-earning actors for the second year in a row. The magazine said he earned $ 89.4 million from June 2018 to June 2019.
