They will only be 0.1 degrees apart, which is a close distance, so they can appear together

The head of the Astronomical Society in Jeddah, Eng. Majed Abu Zahra, said: Observers in the Arab world are preparing to observe a distinct coupling between the moon and the planet Mars, seen with the naked eye, this evening, Saturday April 17, 2021, as they will be separated by only 0.1 degrees and this is a close distance so that they appear together in the same field of view of binoculars or telescopes.

Abu Zahra drew That the moon’s location near Mars is intended only on the dome of the sky, as they are not close to each other in space, as the moon is only about 397,577 kilometers away from us, while Mars is 285 million kilometers away.

And he continued, about a quarter of the moon will appear illuminated and the apparent brightness of Mars will reach 1.5, so the moon will be brighter than Mars, and he will notice that the red planet is now faint, compared to October last year, when it was in the encounter – its closest point to Earth – because Mars is now twice as far away. The distance from the sun, however, is still visible to the naked eye and is the only planet observed in the evening sky this month.

Abu Zahra added that this is an opportunity to take pictures of Mars and the moon with a smartphone or digital camera, and to take wide-angle images with the horizon, trees, or narrow-angle zoomed images with a telescope, and if pictures are taken from different geographical locations around the world, it can show how the positions change. Relative phenomena of Mars and the Moon over time, and how they look different depending on the latitude of the observation site.
