The first since the reconciliation … The Emir of Qatar contacts the King of Saudi Arabia by phone

The Saudi Press Agency (SPA) said that King Salman bin Abdulaziz received a phone call, on Monday, from the Emir of Qatar, Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani, indicating that they exchanged congratulations on the occasion of Ramadan.

This is the first official contact between the two sides since the Al-Ula Summit, which was held last January, in which the Gulf reconciliation statement was announced.

The Emir of Qatar sent a telegram to the Saudi monarch last February to congratulate him on the “success of the surgery” performed by the Crown Prince, Mohammed bin Salman.

The Emir of Qatar made the first phone call since the reconciliation with the Saudi crown prince, last February, about the latest regional and international developments, according to a statement by the Qatari Emiri Diwan.

In June 2017, Saudi Arabia, the UAE, Egypt and Bahrain cut ties with Qatar, accusing it of supporting militant Islamic groups, something that Doha denied and took it closer to Iran.

The four countries have taken measures to boycott Qatar, including closing its airspace to Qatari planes, preventing commercial dealings with the emirate and stopping Qataris from entering its lands, which has caused family members of mixed nationalities to be separated from each other.
