Gross domestic product rose 0.4 percent in February, after falling 2.2 percent in January, the Office for National Statistics said in a statement.
But the office added that the economy was still about 7.8 percent weaker than its pre-pandemic level in February 2020, according to Agence France-Presse.
A spokeswoman for the National Statistics Office said, “The economy showed some improvement in February after the significant decline it witnessed at the beginning of the year, but it is still about 8.0 percent below its previous level of the epidemic.”
“Both wholesalers and retailers saw a slight increase in sales while manufacturing improved with auto producers recovering partially from January’s weakness,” she said.
“The construction (sector) recorded strong growth after the revised figures showed that they had encountered difficulties in the past two months,” the spokeswoman added.
