Unidentified persons assassinated the Minister of Higher Education and Scientific Research in the “Syrian Salvation Government”, which operates within the areas controlled by the “Headquarters for the Liberation of Al-Sham” (formerly Al-Nusra), according to Russia Today.

In detail, the ministry published a condolence statement on its Twitter account, in which it said that “Fayez Al-Khalif” assassinated him “the unrighteous hands of treachery,” without specifying the exact intended purpose.

Al-Khalif had disappeared on April 3, when he left his home in the Dhabit neighborhood in Idlib city, before his body was found today on the outskirts of the town of Al-Tawama in the western countryside of Aleppo, and some Syrian media reported that he was tortured before he was killed.

According to the ministry’s website, Al-Khalif was a former minister of agriculture, and he was born in 1982 in the village of Rusafa, east of Saraqib.

It is noteworthy that “Al-Khalif” obtained a BA in agricultural economics in 2006 from the University of Aleppo, and holds a Ph.D. in pesticide residues analysis, Department of Insects and Pesticides from the Faculty of Agriculture at Cairo University in 2015.

He was a lecturer at the Institute of Agricultural Technology at the University of Idlib in 2015 and 2016 before he was appointed Minister of Agriculture in the Syrian Salvation Government.
