Hibiscus contains vitamin C, also known as ascorbic acid, which is an antioxidant and can help boost the immune system.

Hibiscus tea contains other antioxidants, such as anthocyanins, which may also prevent many chronic diseases, as well as provide antibacterial effects.

Hibiscus tea lowers systolic and diastolic blood pressure.

While it is not recommended for those taking hydrochlorothiazide, it is a type of diuretic used to treat high blood pressure, as it may interact with the drug.

It helps reduce levels of fats in the blood, which are another risk factor for heart disease. It increases the level of good cholesterol, and reduces the level of harmful cholesterol and triglycerides.

It promotes the health of the liver, and helps keep it functioning efficiently, as it performs many vital functions, which include producing proteins and secreting bile to break down fats.

It reduces body weight, body fat level and body mass index.

Hibiscus is high in polyphenols, which are compounds that have been shown to have powerful anti-cancer properties. Hibiscus extract impairs cell growth and reduces the spread of oral cancers and plasma cells. It prevents human prostate cancer cells from spreading and stomach cancer cells by up to 52%.

It helps fight bacterial infections, and bacteria are single-celled microorganisms that can cause a variety of infections, ranging from bronchitis to pneumonia to urinary tract infections.

One test-tube study found that hibiscus inhibits the activity of Escherichia coli, a strain of bacteria that can cause symptoms such as cramping, gas and diarrhea.

The method of preparing hibiscus is easy. It is enough to just add dried hibiscus flowers to a teapot and pour boiling water over it. And leave it to soak for five minutes, then filter it and sweeten it, but it is not preferable to add a lot of sugar to it to take advantage of its benefits.
