Saudi Arabia offers condolences to Chad on the death of the President, and stresses the need for calm

The Kingdom of Saudi Arabia expressed its condolences to the people of Chad on the death of President Idriss Deby Entou, stressing the importance of de-escalation and de-escalation.

Early on Wednesday morning, the Saudi Foreign Ministry issued a statement saying: “The Ministry of Foreign Affairs is following with great concern and interest the developments of events in the sisterly Republic of Chad.”

The statement published by the Saudi Press Agency “SPA” added that the Kingdom expresses its sincere condolences and sympathy to the people of Chad on the death of President Idriss Deby Ento, stresses the importance of calm and non-escalation, and expresses its aspiration that the brothers in Chad reach a solution by peaceful means through dialogue. In a way that preserves the security, stability and unity of Chad, and spares its brotherly people all evil. ”

On Tuesday, the Chadian president died of wounds sustained at the front in fighting against the rebels, in the north of the country, over the weekend, an army spokesman told state television.

“The President of the Republic took his last breaths, defending the territorial integrity and safety on the battlefield, and we announce with great sorrow to the Chadian people the news of the death of Marichal Chad,” said the spokesman, General Azm Bermando Aguna, in a statement read on Chad TV.

After that, the army announced the imposition of a curfew and the closure of the country’s borders, and promised to hold “democratic” elections after an 18-month transitional period in the country.

According to a statement by the Chadian army, a military council led by President Idriss Déby’s son will run the country after his father was killed.

The death of Déby, who ruled Chad with an iron fist 30 years ago, came the day after he was re-elected to a sixth term, winning 79.32 percent of the vote in the April 11 presidential vote, the Electoral Commission announced, Monday.
