The fans of Zamalek lived in a state of euphoria and great joy, after Tunisia’s Esperance advanced over Mouloudia with a clean goal, but the joy turned into a “nightmare” with Mouloudia drawn thanks to Abdel Nour’s goal in the 68th minute.
Despite the convincing victory for Zamalek, with a foursome scored by Youssef Obama, Marwan Hamdy (two goals) and Mahmoud Hamdy, it was not enough to cross.
And so Zamalek failed to achieve the “impossible mission”, and qualify for the quarter-finals, after his very poor start in the tournament, when he scored only two points in the first 4 matches.
Zamalek finished third with 8 points, one point behind MCA, while Esperance led by 11 points.
Fans of the “White Knights” praised the performance of their club, on social media, despite the “sad” exit.
Mouloudia will join the Algerian clubs Chabab Belouizdad, Wydad Casablanca of Morocco, Al-Ahly of Egypt, and Tunisia’s Esperance, to be Arab representatives in the quarter-finals of the tournament.
