Pfizer and Biontech are requesting that the emergency use of their vaccines be extended to teenagers

On Friday, Pfizer and its German partner, Biontech, asked US regulatory agencies to extend the emergency use of their Covid-19 vaccine for adolescents between 12 and 15 years old.

The “Pfizer Bionic” vaccine consists of two doses per person, authorized for use by those aged 16 years and over.

The two companies confirmed last March that clinical trials have proven that the vaccine is safe and helps generate strong antibodies in adolescents who have reached the age of 12 to 15 years.

Experts say that vaccinating children and young people is a crucial step towards achieving what is known as “herd immunity” and containing the epidemic.
