Pele reveals the details of his relationship with Maradona


Brazilian soccer legend Pele spoke on Sunday about the scenes of his relationship with the late Argentine legend Diego Maradona, noting that they were always joking about “who was the best between them.”Pele (80 years) said during an interview with the Italian channel “RAI 3”: “We used to meet sometimes, and although we did not have a close relationship, we were joking together.”

He added, “He told me once, beware, because they say I am better than you, and I told him, you could be better, but I scored goals with the right and left foot and the head and you could not, and we laughed a lot.”He continued, “We always joke about who was the best, but we are all one before the Lord.”

The Brazilian legend, the only player in history to win the World Cup 3 times, revealed the origin of his name as “Pele”, stressing that he did not like this name when he was young.

Pele said in this regard: “My name is Edison and everyone used to call me Pele. I did not like the name because I was a fan of the American inventor Edison.”The former captain and coach of the Argentina national team, Diego Armando Maradona, the 1986 World Cup champion, died on November 25, 2020, at the age of 60 from a heart attack.
