Chinese authorities said on Sunday that eight people have been rescued and 21 others still trapped after a coal mine flooded on Saturday in northwest China’s Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region.

According to the official Xinhua News Agency, the accident occurred on Saturday evening, while 29 miners were modernizing the coal mine in Hotube County of the Hui Autonomous Prefecture of Changi.

Rescue work is still underway.
