The United Arab Emirates University launched its program of activities and initiatives for the month of reading 2021, which is in line with the requirements of the national agenda of the UAE and preparing for the next fifty years. The month of reading this year comes under the slogan “My Family Reads”, which aims to support and strengthen the role of fathers in inculcating a love of reading among children, highlighting its importance and its great role in early childhood development, and establishing it as a permanent culture and community habit among members of society.

Nusseibeh: Reading creates energy and mental and cognitive activity that leads to innovation

His Excellency Zaki Anwar Nusseibeh, the cultural advisor to His Highness the President of the State and the Supreme President of the United Arab Emirates University, said in a speech during the opening of the activities: “The United Arab Emirates University – Future University – aims to promote reading and spread the love of knowledge among students and employees, to make reading a daily habit. Creating energy and mental and cognitive activity that leads to innovation and creativity.

His Excellency added: “It also aims to make initiatives aimed at raising their level of knowledge and culture a major priority in its annual agenda, believing that the advancement of the individual contributes to building a distinguished knowledge society, whose members possess a great deal of knowledge and culture in various fields.

And it supports the government’s rational efforts aimed at building and developing a generation of future leaders armed with an adequate culture of knowledge, allowing them to contribute effectively to preserving our national achievements and acquisitions, achieving sustainable development, and building a civilized model to be emulated. ”

Seminars and conferences

The activities of the United Arab Emirates University in the month of reading include many exhibitions, seminars, conferences, lectures and virtual competitions, in which university students, schools, parents, and employees participate, as well as presenting a video clip with the participation of a famous writer, with the aim of highlighting the books and motivating everyone to read .

The “Reading for the Next 50 Years” event hosts virtual lectures and workshops for students, teachers and faculty members in universities, under the supervision of the University’s College of Education, which aims to promote reading and highlight its important role in spreading awareness within society and raising the cultural and intellectual level for generations. The upcoming event, for effective participation in the sustainable development process for the nation.

The College of Humanities and Social Sciences, in cooperation with the Emirates Center for Strategic Studies and Research, is presenting a hypothetical lecture entitled “Zayed Inspired Me”, with the aim of introducing students, their families, and the faculty and administration, to the legacy of the late founding father, Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan, may God rest his soul, and his great role in Encouraging reading, science and knowledge, and building universities, libraries and institutions that support reading.

The College of Law at the United Arab Emirates University also hosts the initiative “Honoring the one who reads”, under the supervision of Dr. Aisha Al Shehhi, in addition to a lecture “The Impact of Reading on Knowledge Formation and Its Controls”, delivered by Prof. Dr. Abdul Aziz Al Kubaisi.

The College of Science holds activities that include: poetry readings, reading in the book: “Why We Sleep, Revealing the Power of Sleep and Dreams,” and a reading in the book: “The Seven Habits of Highly Effective People – Effective Lessons in Personal Change” by Stephen R. Covey, in addition to the effectiveness of the experience of “writing an influential book”, which aims to shed light on the most important milestones and considerations that the distinguished author must follow.
