The UAE affirmed that the increasing volume of challenges facing the Arab region requires collective action, an increase in cooperation and coordination, and dealing with these challenges with rationality and wisdom, and giving priority to diplomatic efforts in solving the region’s crises, based on the principles of the state established in its Arab environment in order to achieve the aspirations of the Arab peoples in building, development, stability and strengthening Joint Arab action.
This came in the speech of His Excellency Khalifa Shaheen Al Marar, Minister of State, during his presidency of the state delegation to the meetings of the League of Arab States Council at the ministerial level in its 155th regular session held yesterday at the headquarters of the General Secretariat of the Arab League in Cairo.
An exceptional situation
His Excellency congratulated the Secretary General of the League of Arab States, Ahmed Aboul Gheit, for his re-election for a second term to lead this institution. His Excellency said that among the challenges that lie before us today are the difficulties and the exceptional situation that we have faced and we are still facing all, which is the horrific spread of the new Corona virus, which continues to kill people, exhausts the economy and health services, and paralyzes social life, and its effects affect various walks of life.
He added that this challenge requires strengthening joint Arab action, regional and international cooperation and solidarity, to meet the urgent requirements of combating it and its effects that will extend to the future.
On the Palestinian issue, he reiterated the UAE’s firm position in support of the establishment of a Palestinian state on the borders of June 4, 1967, with East Jerusalem as its capital, in accordance with international legitimacy decisions, the Arab Peace Initiative and the two-state solution.
He said that the UAE sees the importance of focusing on mobilizing regional and international support and seizing all appropriate opportunities to create a new international momentum to break the deadlock in the political process and create the conditions for the return of negotiations to reach a two-state solution. His Excellency also warned against foreign interference in the internal affairs of Arab countries, as they constitute a threat that must be faced .. He said that Iranian and Turkish interference in Arab affairs is a clear example of negative interference in the region, which threatens the sovereignty, security, stability and safety of Arab countries, as well as threatening the security and safety of the movement. Regional and international maritime navigation and endanger the interests of Arab countries
His Excellency expressed the UAE’s strong condemnation of the continued terrorist attacks by the Houthi militia on the territory of the sisterly Kingdom of Saudi Arabia and the attack on its civilian and vital installations.
His Excellency said that the countries’ respect for their legal obligations and the principles of good neighborliness will remain the basic requirement of the UAE.
In this context, His Excellency renewed the UAE’s call to Iran to respond positively to its repeated calls for a peaceful solution to the issue of the three occupied Emirati islands, Greater Tunb, Lesser Tunb and Abu Musa, through direct negotiations or resorting to the International Court of Justice. His Excellency said that the UAE is following the developments of the Yemeni crisis, and welcomes the implementation of the Riyadh Agreement between the Yemeni government and the Southern Transitional Council, and expresses its hope that this will be a step on the road to achieving a political solution and pushing the paths to end the Yemeni crisis.
He also praised the pivotal role of Saudi Arabia in implementing the Riyadh Agreement, and its support and support for everything that achieves the interest of the Yemeni people, affirming the UAE’s support for the efforts of the UN envoy to Yemen Martin Griffiths in reaching a peaceful and sustainable solution to the Yemeni crisis.
On the Syrian crisis, he reiterated the state’s assertion that a political solution is the only solution to end this crisis.
On the Libyan issue, His Excellency welcomed the formation of the new Libyan executive authority, expressing hope that this step would lead to achieving security, stability and development in Libya. He also expressed the UAE’s aspiration for the success of the other tracks under the auspices of the United Nations, stressing the UAE’s continued support for the UN efforts to reach a peaceful and sustainable settlement in Libya.
On the situation in Iraq, His Excellency affirmed his support for all efforts concerned with achieving security, stability and prosperity for Iraq and its people, expressing the UAE’s condemnation and condemnation of all terrorist and criminal acts aimed at destabilizing the security and stability of Iraq.
His Excellency added that the UAE reiterates its support for all efforts aimed at achieving security and stability in the brotherly Sudan, the success of the transitional phase, the achievement of development and prosperity, and the advancement of the urgent needs of the brotherly Sudanese people.
He welcomed the decision of the United States to remove Sudan from the list of states sponsoring terrorism, stressing the UAE’s support for all efforts to bring Sudan back to normal.
His Excellency said that the UAE, as a peace-loving country, affirms its endeavors aimed at spreading a culture of tolerance, moderation and coexistence among peoples, giving preference to the language of dialogue and reason among them.
In turn, Aboul Gheit said: “We are witnessing a tense situation at the top of the international system, where competition between the poles intensifies,” indicating that global developments have an impact on the region, and that it is important that we continue to defend our just Arab causes.
For his part, the Saudi Foreign Minister, Prince Faisal bin Farhan, reiterated the Kingdom’s affirmation of the importance and necessity of strengthening joint Arab action, and adhering to firm positions towards central Arab issues.
