The Minister of Health and Chairman of the Board of Directors of the Public Health Authority, Weqaya, Dr. Tawfiq Al-Rabiah, appreciated the Cabinet’s decision to approve the transformation of the National Center for Disease Prevention and Control into a public body named the “Public Health Authority”.
Al-Rabiah explained that the Public Health Authority will work to enhance the Kingdom’s success in achieving the goals of Vision 2030, by working with other health sectors and vision programs, for the sake of the well-being of society in the Kingdom and ensuring the state’s attention to public health.
He pointed out that the “Public Health Authority” will promote the principle of prevention, through legislation, public policies and programs, that affect all aspects of the concept of public health that goes beyond the role of the health sector.
He added that one of the most important work of the authority is to work to raise the general readiness to respond to public health emergencies such as (pandemics and epidemics), by organizing efforts between the relevant authorities.
He added that the new authority will develop plans for responding to epidemics and pandemics, leading to recovery, with clearly distributing roles and responsibilities, in cooperation with the relevant authorities, stressing that this effort is important and essential to enhance health security, taking into account the importance and weight of the Kingdom in this regard.
