I was watched and forbidden to speak

Meghan Markle, Duchess of Sussex, told Oprah Winfrey that she agreed to speak with her in an interview because she can now.
“We have the power to make our own choices somehow,” Megan Markle told Oprah Winfrey, in a newly released clip of the recorded interview to be released by CBS Sunday.
The Duchess’s comments came in response to an inquiry as to why she was interviewing her now, not in March 2018 when the presenter first requested it.

Markle explained, “It wasn’t my choice. So, as an adult who lived a really independent life, then moved on to this building that is… different from what people imagine, it’s really liberating to be able to enjoy the right and the privilege in some ways to be able to Say Yes”.

Markle also said that when Oprah Winfrey first asked her for an interview, their conversation was being monitored.

She continued: “I remember that conversation well. I wasn’t even allowed to have that conversation with you personally, was it not. There should have been other people (inaudible) sitting there.”
