In a statement issued yesterday by his spokesman Stephane Dujarric, Guterres expressed his welcome to all steps aimed at bringing the two parties closer to a solution to the conflict, in line with the efforts made by his Special Envoy Martin Griffiths to reach a comprehensive ceasefire throughout Yemen, reopen Sanaa airport and enter Regular fuel and other commodities through the port of Hodeidah, and the transition to an inclusive political process to reach a comprehensive, negotiated settlement to end the conflict.
Guterres indicated to the difficulty of the humanitarian situation in Yemen, stressing the need to place the needs of the Yemeni people before all other considerations, calling for allowing the entry of fuel ships urgently to the port of Hodeidah and removing all obstacles to distributing fuel locally.
The Secretary-General of the United Nations urged the two parties to seize this opportunity and work with his Special Envoy to move forward with good intentions without any preconditions, reaffirming that all relevant actors and stakeholders should make every effort to facilitate reaching an immediate agreement that would return Yemen to the path of peace. .
