Dubai, United Arab Emirates (CNN) – Ahmed Kattan, Saudi Minister of State for African Countries and former ambassador to Cairo, stated that he was “officially informed”, during his work in Egypt, that Ahmed Shafiq was the winner of the Egyptian presidential elections in 2012 in front of Mohamed Morsi Muslim Brotherhood candidate at the time.

Kattan said, in an interview with the “In the Picture” program on the “Rotana Khalijia” channel: “We knew that Ahmed Shafiq was the one who won, but the intervention of the American ambassador to Egypt (Anne Patterson) and a long story …”, so the announcer interrupted him with a question: “Is it?” Ahmed Shafiq, who won the elections?

Kattan replied, “Yes, yes, it was announced on the Egyptian TV that Brother Mustafa Bakri was speaking and saying that the security forces went to Mr. Ahmed Shafiq’s house to protect him.” Then the announcer interrupted him again with a question: “How was it announced that Mohamed Morsi was the one who won?” Kattan replied, “What I’m saying is the story that happened because of interference.”

Kattan added that he said in a report at the time to the late Saudi Foreign Minister Prince Saud al-Faisal: “Praise be to God that Muhammad Morsi was the one who won because Egypt was going to burn. Why? He who won, and also that their actions will be revealed during this year, my expectations were that these people would not rule Egypt. ”

And Kattan continued by saying, “It is impossible, through my knowledge of Egypt and the Egyptian armed forces, it is impossible for them to remain in power. Indeed, the thing that I am happy about is that during the year in which they ruled they were exposed and were stripped naked.”

Kattan repeated again his talk about Shafiq’s victory, and said: “But in order not to talk about this long, Lieutenant General Ahmed Shafiq is the one who won the elections.

He added, “The American ambassador had a role and pressure on … They wanted the United States’ scheme at that time. ”

When asked about who had officially informed him of Shafiq’s “victory”, Kattan said that this could not be revealed. He added, “But Balash, who was notified, Mustafa Bakri announced on Egyptian television, he said that so-and-so-and-so-and-so’s victory was announced.”
