According to an AFP report, citing a Catalan regional police spokesperson, police raided the Barcelona club headquarters and made several “arrests” as part of an operation targeting, according to media outlets, former president Josep Maria Bartomeu, six days before his presidential election.
The Catalan regional police spokesman refused to reveal the identities of the detainees, saying only that the police were “about to make arrests.”
However, according to various media outlets, including “Cadena Ser” radio, Bartomeu is one of those arrested.
Radio Cadena Ser confirmed that the club’s current general manager, Oscar Grau, and the legal director, Roman Gómez Ponte, have also been arrested.
The operation also comes less than a week before the presidential elections in Nadi Barcelona, Whose results have deteriorated recently, although he is temporarily ranked second on the ladder of the Spanish first division, behind Atletico Madrid, and one point ahead of Real Madrid, who is expected to play a match tonight.
It is worth noting that Bartomeu had resigned with his board of directors last year amid repercussions of the controversy surrounding Lionel Messi.
