The giant Amazon group in the field of e-commerce launched Thursday for the first time outside the United States, a supermarket that allows shopping without going through the box, in a new stage in the intense competition with traditional stores.
The network pointed out in a statement that the “Amazon Fresh” store in the “Ealing Broadway” commercial center is the first store in Britain that allows tobacco smoke and then go out directly “without waiting at a checkout box.” The store is also the first non-virtual giant network outside the United States.
Customers simply scan a barcode on their smartphones upon entry, then shop, choose their purchases, and then exit directly.
Without the need to go through the box, the value of every commodity that the customer pulls from the shelf is automatically deducted from his account through the application installed on his phone.
The store works through sensors, cameras and algorithms that work with “deep learning” technology that allows the machine to learn automatically, according to a promotional video published by “Amazon”.
The store offers “a wide variety of products that carry the + branded by Amazon +, including meat, fish, vegetables, baked goods, prepared foods and basic necessities.”
The store will be “similar to twenty + Amazon Go + stores in the United States, but it will carry the brand + Fresh + originally used in Britain for electronic grocery,” with a series of other sites slated to open in London.
The pandemic has strengthened the main “Amazon” site in the distribution sector, in light of the closure measures that have forced hundreds of millions of people around the world to have their homes for many months.
