The first basketball team of Al-Ahly club achieved a precious victory at the expense of its guest Zamalek in the match that brought the two teams together this evening, Friday, at Prince Abdullah Al-Faisal Hall at Al-Ahly Club’s headquarters on the island, within the fourth round of the Premier Basketball League.

The first half of the basketball derby ended with Zamalek leading Al-Ahly with a score of 27-17, and Zamalek expanded the difference in the second half to finish ahead of Al-Ahly 55-42, and Al-Ahly reduced the score in the third half by seven points, to finish with Zamalek’s lead 70-63.

In the last round of normal time of the match, Al-Ahly was able to return in the score, ending the normal time, tied in the score with Zamalek 95-95.

The two teams resorted to playing an additional half, during which Al-Ahly and its guest Zamalek exchanged progress during the events of the half until the match ended with Al-Ahly’s victory over Zamalek 112-106.

Omar Tariq, the player of the Al-Ahly basketball team, expressed his happiness with the victory over the Zamalek team within the framework of the league championship.

He explained that the team presented a performance befitting of those wearing the Al-Ahly shirt in terms of determination and persistence, despite the delay in the point difference in the first three periods of the meeting.

The player pointed out that the spirit of the red shirt was behind Al-Ahly’s victory over Zamalek, adding that the technical staff made a great effort to overcome all the difficulties and obstacles that everyone faced in the match to win.

Tariq stressed that Al-Ahly was keen to win after the previous loss to Al-Jazeera, in the absence of the distinguished elements in the team’s ranks due to injuries.
