Since its founding in 2020, a new app called Clubhouse has grabbed the attention of many quickly, and has earned a reputation as the perfect place for people to meet, talk and share ideas.
The Clubhouse app, developed by businessman and former Googlerohan employee Seth, is based on voice chat, making it an interactive “podcast” or conference call.
During the launch of the app in 2020, it caught attention after Elon Musk, CEO of Tesla and SpaceX, appeared on the app. Musk’s conversation with Robinhood Markets’ chief, Vladimir Tenev, on the platform, led to a sudden spike in app downloads.
How does Clubhouse work ?:
The Clubhouse creates a place where people can meet to host and listen to conversations, and in some cases, join conversations within the app community. When the user opens the application, he will be provided with a list of rooms, in addition to a list showing the people in each room. One can either join an existing chat room or can start their own, invite new people and start new conversations.
Each room has moderators, speakers and listeners, and the hosts control who gets speaking privileges, although listeners can “raise their hands” (by default) to speak.
In short, Clubhouse allows you to create and join ‘rooms’, where you can then chat with others on a large conference call. There are no pictures, videos, or even text, just audio.
Users can join and leave the call at any time, and convert any room into a public meeting room.
Here’s everything you should know about Clubhouse:
The first thing to know about Clubhouse is how to join. Unfortunately, the answer to this question is: “Maybe you can’t,” since Clubhouse relies on invitation only, meaning that anyone who wants to join must be attended by someone who already has an account. You can still download the app and put your name on hold, but there is no guarantee that you will get an account this way.
In addition, Clubhouse is currently only available for iPhone users.
Clubhouse CEO Paul Davidson said the app would eventually open to everyone, including Android users. But the company prefers the slow growth of its user base at present, which means that anyone who can receive an invitation gets only two invitations, and can then offer it to others.
How it works Clubhouse؟:
The Clubhouse creates a place where people can meet to host and listen to conversations, and in some cases, join conversations within the app community.
When you open the app, you will see a list of rooms, in addition to a list showing who is in each room. You can join the room by clicking on it, or start creating your own.
And so far, most Clubhouse rooms have a TED Talk, where one guest talks and the others listen. Other users can join the conversation when the host considers it appropriate, but depending on the chat, this may be rare.
There are always dozens of conversations happening simultaneously, allowing users to move between topics and speakers based on their interests.
Clubhouse rooms are hosted by experts, stars, celebrities, venture capitalists, journalists and more.
Elon Musk and Mark Zuckerberg have spoken on Clubhouse Calls in the past few weeks, which has heightened the hype about the app, as ambitious users increasingly want to join this exclusive community.
What comes next ?:
The Clubhouse built its reputation through talks hosted by big names like Oprah Winfrey, Mark Zuckerberg, and Elon Musk. And the app is already a staple between entertainment figures and Silicon Valley. The company even has a valuation of more than $ 1 billion, despite being founded less than a year ago.
Clubhouse has plans to expand further, eventually taking its place among the other major social media sites such as Facebook or Twitter. But to do so, they will also have to face some of the controversies surrounding the platform.
Some Clubhouse journalists, especially women, spoke of being targets of bullying and harassment from other users of the platform. Others witnessed rooms headed for racism and the denial of “Covid-19”.
And while the Clubhouse has already built a strong reputation, it looks to the future. There are plans to allow users to make money through the app from subscriptions, events and tips. And as more people are invited, participation is sure to increase.
