Riyadh – Washington: “Asharq Al-Awsat”

Yesterday, the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia announced its categorical rejection of the “abusive and incorrect conclusions” contained in an American report that dealt with the circumstances of the killing of the Saudi citizen Jamal Khashoggi, renewing its condemnation of the “heinous crime” that targeted it, and referring to the measures taken by the Kingdom against those involved.
Yesterday, the Saudi Ministry of Foreign Affairs issued a statement saying that it had followed “what was circulated regarding the report that was provided to the (US) Congress regarding the murder of Jamal Khashoggi, may God have mercy on him.” The statement added that the Kingdom’s government “completely rejects the offensive and incorrect conclusions contained in the report about the Kingdom’s leadership, and cannot be accepted in any way, and the report included a set of information and other untrue conclusions.”
The statement pointed out {what was previously issued in this regard by the competent authorities in the Kingdom that this is a heinous crime that constituted a flagrant violation of the Kingdom’s laws and values committed by a group that violated all regulations and violated the powers of the agencies in which they were working, and all necessary judicial measures have been taken to investigate and present them. For justice, as final court rulings were issued against them, which the Khashoggi family welcomed, may God have mercy on him. ”
And the Foreign Ministry’s statement continued, “It is truly regrettable that such a report and the wrong and unjustified conclusions it contained have been issued at a time when the Kingdom condemned this heinous crime and its leadership has taken the necessary steps to ensure that such an unfortunate incident is not repeated in the future, and the Kingdom rejects any matter that might affect With its leadership, sovereignty and independence of its judiciary}.
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs affirmed that {the partnership between the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia and the United States of America is a strong and solid partnership, based over the past eight decades on solid foundations based on mutual respect, and the institutions in the two countries are working to strengthen them in various fields, and to intensify coordination and cooperation between them to achieve security and stability in the region and the world. We hope that these solid foundations, which formed a strong framework for the two countries’ strategic partnership, will continue.
The office of the US Director of National Intelligence, Avril Heinz, issued a report on the circumstances of Khashoggi’s killing inside the Saudi consulate in Istanbul in 2018. It includes a summary of the conclusions and unconfirmed speculations of the US intelligence community, including the Central Intelligence Agency (CIA). While the report did not bring anything new about what was published by the Turkish intelligence, it did not include confirmation on whether the operation that claimed Khashoggi’s life was aimed at arresting him or killing him.
A CNN correspondent for National Security Affairs indicated that the report “did not provide concrete details or evidence about its content, such as a text message or a phone call verifying the authenticity of what was stated in the intelligence report.”
