Pompeo added: “I am not just a diplomat, who defended Donald Trump (the former US president) foreign policy and criticized President Joe Biden’s early moves.”
Pompeo reminded the attendees of the assassination of the former commander of the “Jerusalem” Corps, Qassem Soleimani, asking a sarcastic question: “How many of you (attendees) remember Qassem Soleimani? God have mercy on him,” in a veiled reference to his role in the operation. “According to the British “Daily Mail”, the assassination of the Iranian general, Qassem Suleiman, caused severe tension between America and Iran, pushing the two countries to the brink of war.
A missile strike from an American drone killed General Soleimani, immediately, as he left Baghdad International Airport at the beginning of last year.
According to the newspaper, Iran responded by firing ballistic missiles at US bases in Iraq where American soldiers are stationed.
No US casualties were initially reported, but later dozens of American soldiers suffered brain injuries and concussions due to the massive shock wave from the Iranian strike.
