The total domestic production and import of natural gas in the Sultanate of Oman reached 4 billion and 19 million cubic meters at the end of January 2021, an increase of 5.7%, compared to 3 billion and 801 million cubic meters during the same period in 2020.
The data of the National Center for Statistics and Information published, on Saturday, showed that industrial projects accounted for 65.2% of the Sultanate’s natural gas uses, by the end of January 2021.
The data showed that industry uses amounted to two billion and 621 million cubic meters, and the uses of oil fields of natural gas reached one billion and one million cubic meters, an increase of 24.1% from the end of January 2020, which amounted to 807 million cubic meters, where uses include losses, meter differences and shrinkage coefficient.
The data showed that the uses of natural gas power plants amounted to 379 million cubic meters, an increase of 3.1%. The total use of industrial areas in the Sultanate – including “Oman Mining” and “Oman Cement” – reached 19 million cubic meters.
The non-associated production of natural gas, including imports, reached 3 billion and 347 million cubic meters, while the associated production of gas reached 672 million cubic meters.
The Sultanate is striving to rely more on clean energy, relying on its great potential for solar and wind energy production.
