Manuel Neuer, Bayern Munich goalkeeper, praised his counterpart Mohamed El Shennawy, Al-Ahly’s goalkeeper, after the two teams’ match in the World Cup semi-finals, which ended with the Bavarian team winning 2-0.
Neuer said, in statements to FIFA: “Al-Ahly is a team with accomplishments and achieved records before, but it is natural that only one team will go to the final, and we have achieved that.”
The goalkeeper of the Germany and Bayern Munich national team talked about his counterpart, the goalkeeper of Egypt and Al-Ahly, and what happened between them after the two teams faced the semi-finals of the FIFA Club World Cup last Monday: “I think everyone saw our mutual respect, after the match we embraced, shook hands and exchanged shirts.”
Regarding El-Shenawi saying that Neuer is his role model, the German goalkeeper said: “When it is said about me by guards facing me on the field, that is something special. This is part of the mutual respect between us.”
Bayern Munich faces his Mexican counterpart, Tigress Unal, in the World Cup final tonight, at the Education City stadium in the Qatari capital, Doha.
