Foods that reduce stress also include healthy carbohydrates, which can help carbohydrates to boost the production of serotonin in the brain, which is essential in affecting mood, and serotonin has a calming effect, and promotes sleep and relaxation.

Research has also indicated that lower levels of serotonin in the brain can lead to increased exposure to psychological and social stress.

Additionally, fermented foods like yogurt, Indian mushrooms, and sauerkraut. Fermented foods contain friendly bacteria known as probiotics, which have the ability to reduce stress and cortisol levels.

Controlled trials suggest that foods containing probiotics indicate a causal relationship between the gut microbiota and the stress response. Research has shown that fermented foods may help reduce symptoms of social anxiety as well, and these probiotic-rich foods may also help control negative thoughts associated with bad moods.

The list also includes foods rich in magnesium, such as green leafy vegetables, nuts, seeds, legumes, and whole grains, as the lack of magnesium in the body increases the level of stress.

Green and black teas, and chamomile tea are rich in theanine, an amino acid that helps reduce stress and promote a feeling of calm, and tea is also rich in antioxidants, which can help reduce oxidative stress in the body, which helps protect against diseases.

To reduce feelings of stress, caffeine should also be consumed less, as it has effects on the brain and nervous system, and it can raise cortisol levels, and exacerbate the effects of stress on the body.
