A fine of 30,000 riyals and suspension from playing for Akram Afif due to his statements to the media

The Qatar Football Association announced the Disciplinary Committee’s decision to arrest Akram Afif, the Al Sadd club player, for two matches and to fine him 30,000 riyals for his statements to the media.

The Qatar Football Association stated in a tweet on its official Twitter account that the two matches are the next match in the QNB League competition and the final match of the Qatar Cup competition.

The federation indicated that the suspension and fines came due to the media statements of the player Akram Afif, based on Articles No. 77/4 and 3-9/1 of the Discipline Regulations for the 2020-2021 sports season.

Article 77/4 of the Discipline Regulation for the season 2020-2021 stipulates that any person may be punished according to Article 9 if he made public statements that harm the federation or the management of the Qatar Stars League or any club or contradict their interests through the media or social media.

Afif’s statement during an interview with Al-Kas channels after the semi-final match of the Qatar Cup against Al-Rayyan sparked a great controversy on social media and in sports circles.

Afif said during the statement: “We were playing in front of 11 and a half players,” referring to the referee who did not provide them with protection against the roughness of Al Rayyan players.

He pointed out that it was rough play that caused him to obtain the yellow card.
