The US Labor Department report issued today, Thursday, indicated that the number of applications for unemployment benefits for the first time reached 900 thousand last week, a decrease of 26 thousand applications from the previous week, which reached 926 thousand applications, according to the revised data.
Analysts had expected the number of orders to decline last week to 910,000, compared to 965,000 in the previous week, according to preliminary data.
Despite the decline in the number of requests in the week before last, compared to the initial data, it is still the highest since August 22, when it recorded 1,011 million requests.
At the same time, the US Labor Department stated that the weekly average number of requests during the past four less volatile weeks rose to 848,000, an increase of 23.5 thousand requests from the previous week, where the average was 824.5 thousand requests.
The ministry added that the number of continuous unemployment benefits applications decreased by 127,000, to reach 5.54 million, in the week ending on January 9th.
At the same time, the average number of requests for continuous unemployment benefits decreased during the past four weeks by 67,000, to 5 million and 126,250 applications, compared to 5 million and 193250 applications in the previous week.
