The AFC announced today, Friday, that the AFC Champions League draw will be held on the 27th of this month, in the Malaysian capital, Kuala Lumpur.

The Confederation said in a statement posted on its website: “Football at the club level is entering a new era with the largest season ever in the history of Asian football. January 27, 2021 in the Malaysian capital, Kuala Lumpur.

The AFC Cup draw will take place first, followed by the AFC Champions League drawing.

Both tournaments witness record participation in terms of the number of clubs during the two editions of 2021; Where two additional groups have been added; One for the East, and one for the West, in the 2021 AFC Champions League, and the tournament has been expanded to include 40 clubs instead of 32.

In contrast: the number of clubs participating in the AFC Cup group stage increased from 36 to 39 clubs; Where a new group has been added in the center.

Among the clubs entering the first participation in the history of the AFC Champions League, the Al-Wehdat club, the Jordanian league champion, the Indian Goa, the Tajik Al-Istiqlal and the two-time AFC Cup champion, in the western region, as well as United City from the Philippines, the Singaporean Tambenis Rovers and Vettel of Vietnam, in East groups.

The newly crowned Ulsan Hyundai club hopes to succeed in retaining the AFC Champions League title, to repeat the achievement of the Saudi club Al-Ittihad, which won the title in 2004 and 2005.

It is noteworthy that the team that won the AFC Cup 2021, will have the opportunity to qualify for the preliminary rounds of the AFC Champions League 2022.
