The Yemeni Minister of Health and Population, Dr. Qassem Buhaibeh, in Aden yesterday, with the support of the King Salman Center for Relief and Humanitarian Action, inaugurated a workshop on the technical review of the strategy for the malaria program in the Republic of Yemen for the years from 2020 to 2023.
The workshop organized by the National Malaria Control Program in cooperation with the World Health Organization over a period of two days and with the participation of 35 staff representing a number of governorates and districts will discuss issues related to reviewing the work of the program with its various components in managing malaria cases, surveillance, monitoring, evaluation, preparedness, epidemiological policy, vector control, awareness, education and supply.
Minister Buhaibeh stressed the importance of training and scientific rehabilitation at this stage, stressing the importance of the workshop in assessing the epidemiological situation and setting precautionary measures to combat epidemics of all kinds in the various governorates in the country, noting the positive role that the King Salman Relief Center plays in supporting the health sector in Yemen.
For her part, Director of the World Health Organization Office in Aden, Dr. Noha Mahmoud, urged the participants in the workshop to formulate solutions in line with the health reality in Yemen, stressing the importance of the work of this workshop in reviewing policies on vector control.
It is noteworthy that the King Salman Relief Center, in partnership with the organization, is implementing an executive program worth more than 10 million US dollars to combat and prevent the malaria epidemic in Yemen for a period of up to 18 months, covering all Yemeni governorates affected by the disease.
The project includes securing drugs to treat malaria, and supporting the WHO and Yemeni government stores with a wide range of medicines as a sufficient reserve stock to cover any emergency need in the event of an outbreak.
The center also works through the project to secure the necessary laboratory equipment and supplies and their consumables to diagnose malaria in hospitals and health centers in the affected Yemeni governorates.
The organization of the workshop comes within the framework of the support provided by the Kingdom through the center to the World Health Organization to promote the health aspect in Yemen and various other countries.
