Bahrain announced today, Thursday, that the State of Qatar has not shown any initiative to resolve pending issues between the two countries, after the agreement of Gulf interests that was signed during the Al-Ula summit in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, and it did not respond to an official letter from Manama in this regard.

The Bahraini Minister of Foreign Affairs, Abdul Latif Al-Zayani, said that the Qatari authorities “have not, after the issuance of the Al-Ula statement, any signs of resolving the outstanding issues with the Kingdom of Bahrain, or in response to direct negotiations over those files.”

He added, according to the official Bahrain News Agency: “Qatar remains on dealing with the requirements of Gulf consensus, taking into account Bahrain’s strategic interests, and expediting the treatment of pending issues between the two countries in order to ensure sound and positive relations between the two countries in the future.”

He continued: “Bahrain believes in Gulf integration, and welcomed the Al-Ula statement as it represents a new stage for regional stability, and provided goodwill as a prelude to eliminating the damage it has suffered over recent decades as a result of Qatari policies.”

The minister pointed out that Bahrain “sent, based on the decisions of the Al-Ula statement, a letter to Qatar that included an invitation to send an official delegation to Manama as soon as possible to start bilateral talks on the outstanding issues and issues between the two sides, but the Ministry of Foreign Affairs has not yet received a response from the Qatari side.”

Al-Zayani continued: “Qatar has not taken any clear measures regarding the activation of the provisions of the Al-Ula statement regarding the demands of the Kingdom of Bahrain … We look forward to a new path in relations with Qatar that takes into account the rights and interests of each country, through clear mechanisms so that relations are more balanced and stable.

Al-Zayani stressed that Bahrain is committed to the Al-Ula statement, “and has announced the continuation of flights with Qatar, and called for direct bilateral negotiations with Doha to reach an agreement on the continuity of allowing fishermen in the two countries to practice their activities as is customary.”
