In the video posted on the European Space Agency’s YouTube website, a sudden sharp glow appears on the Earth’s surface, followed by the appearance of a column of blue light in the Earth’s atmosphere.
According to the agency’s explanation, this flare is caused by a phenomenon called “elf”, which appears at the top of the thunderstorms, and can spread out accidentally to hundreds of kilometers.
As for the blue jet streams, they are luminous streams that emanate from the centers of thunderstorms. Its glare gradually fades at an altitude of about 50 km.
The agency notes that these two phenomena are very rare and last for a few milliseconds.
