Moderna said on Monday at the JP Morgan Healthcare Conference that immunization from its vaccine against “Covid-19” should last for at least a year.
The pharmaceutical company stated that it is confident that the messenger RNA (mRNA) technology it used was well suited to deploy a vaccine based on the new variant of the Corona virus, which has appeared in a handful of countries.
The moderna vaccine, mRNA-1273, uses so-called synthetic mRNA to mimic the surface of the coronavirus and teach the immune system to recognize and neutralize it.
Moderna said last December that it would conduct tests to confirm the vaccine’s activity against any strain.
On Monday, it revealed that it expects to deliver between 600 million and a billion doses of its vaccine in 2021, and forecast vaccine sales of $ 11.7 billion for the year, based on pre-purchase agreements signed with governments.
“The team feels completely comfortable with the track record we have now. We are on the right track to deliver at least 600 million doses,” said Chief Executive Officer Stephane Bancel.
