The first batches of the vaccines, “Pfizer / Biontec” and Cinopharm, arrived in the Kingdom on Saturday and Monday, after the Jordanian Food and Drug Administration authorized their use.
On Wednesday morning, vaccinations began in a number of hospitals and health centers. The Ministry of Health has identified 29 vaccination centers spread throughout the Kingdom’s governorates, including seven in the capital, Amman.
The campaign targets 20 to 25 percent of the kingdom’s population of about 10.5 million people. Vaccines are available free of charge to Jordanians and residents in the Kingdom.
For his part, Minister of Health, Nazir Obeidat, affirmed that “the vaccination process is going smoothly, targeting the elderly, people with chronic diseases and health personnel in the first stage, but our biggest goal is to reach and vaccinate the largest percentage of citizens.”
He added in statements to the official “Al-Mamlaka” channel: “I hope that everyone will register. Vaccinations are important in eliminating epidemics. We must protect ourselves and our families.”
The Secretary-General of the Ministry of Health for Epidemiology Affairs, who is in charge of the Corona file, Doctor Wael Al Hayajneh, said that “vaccines are effective and safe.”
