Second-tier Holstein Kiel blew a heavy surprise by stripping Bayern Munich of the German Cup soccer champion when he beat them 6-5 on penalties, Wednesday.

The original and extra time ended in a 2-2 draw at the end of the second round of the competition.

Bayern Munich advanced twice through Serge Gnabry (14) and LeRoy Sané (47), and the home owners responded twice also by Finn Bartels (37) and Hawkeye Wahl (90 + 5).

The two teams resorted to the two additional halves without changing the result, so they turned to the penalty shootout that smiled at Holstein after Spaniard Marc Rocca missed Bayern’s sixth penalty shoot-out, and Bartels scored the penalty shootout for the landowners.

The hopes of Bayern Munich, the record holder in the number of titles in the competition (20 titles), evaporated in a three-second successive repeat by leaving the local cup competition, knowing that the last time the Bavarian team left the cup competition at the hands of a team from a lower class dates back to the 2000 season. 2001, when he came out on penalties, also against Magdeburg, who was then in fourth division.

Holstein Kiel became the last to qualify for the final price and followed runner-up Bayer Leverkusen, who stone his card on Tuesday by beating home to Eintracht Frankfurt 4-1.
